Horrible customer service from Melissa, who needs to remember that the client can hear what you say about them when you forget to hit the hold button.

My husband has dementia and Parkinson and falls frequently. I took him to the ER to treat a deep cut on his head and he was asked if he wanted to go upstairs to behavioral health. We were Told that since it was voluntary that he could leave anytime. With his dementia in an unfamiliar environment, he was aggressive about, leaving and very confused. He was given Ativan, trazodone and risperidone. By visitation time on Friday, he had slept through breakfast and his morning meds and he was sitting in diarrhea. He did have a sitter to keep him in bed. His main goal in that environment was to escape what he called incarceration. I started trying to get them to let me get him home and they said it would be AMA (Against medical advice) And that the insurance may not pay for his hospital stay. So I continued to leave him there for 14 days and then I decided I would take him out AMA. I was told that I would not be able to take care of him. I was surprised to see all the bruises on his arms and legs where he was restrained and 3 falls when he tried to escape .Once we got him home and let him wake up, he immediately started improving. I took him to his physician the next day, and was told that with dementia he should never have been in a psych ward. He got him back on all his old medicine and ordered home healthcare. I was told earlier by the staff at the behavioral health unit that I would get no referral since I took him out AMA. He has made a wonderful recovery and is doing great!
