I went to this program for adults working through mental health issues to help address anxiety, and even some depression, surrounding a chronic illness that has severely altered my life… and I could see how Newport institute could be very beneficial for some people. I won’t say I didn’t get anything out of it as many of the practitioners and staff were kind and gave me real tools to help deal with anxiety as it relates to my illness. However, the 3 stars is related to how my chronic pain was treated. Especially one of the therapists treated me like I was an addict, not someone with chronic pain. This actually set me back in my search for remedies as I started to believe her. After leaving the program I lost faith in myself and fell further into anxiety and depression when I had pain flare ups. I don’t recommend this program for anyone with physical health issues in addition to their mental health struggles. I also believe that they don’t accommodate parents very well. I understand limiting access to people outside of the program, but not allowing a mother to even speak to her toddlers on the phone until she has reached specific goals set by them did more harm than good.
