Beware: This clinic would rather you miss your medical appointments than fix a new confirmation policy they know is a problem. Imagine you have taken the afternoon off work and drive nearly an hour to see your Doctor. The clinic reached out to you a month earlier to schedule this appointment as they won’t renew your prescriptions you rely on without seeing you. You get to the appointment only to find out it has been canceled without so much as an email notice. You are told by the front desk that they have a new confirmation policy that if you do not confirm your appointment within 48 hours before it starts, they will just cancel the appointment without notice. You are confused because you never got a call from them and nobody told you about this new policy when they scheduled this appointment. You learn that: 1. The appointment confirmation call comes from an auto-dialer 2. That auto-dialer number is usually marked as spam 3. The auto-dialer does not leave a message 4. They do send confirmation texts but apparently won’t ask you about if they can text you when THEY call to schedule YOU (or at least they didn’t ask me) I was stunned at how badly implemented this policy is for something as important as medical appointments that you usually need to schedule a month in advance. Auto-dialers are very capable of leaving voicemails and who in this day and age answers a call or respond to a call marked as spam when the caller won’t leave a voicemail? Who doesn’t warn a patient that if they don’t answer every spam call the week before their appointment they will have their appointment canceled? The staff did seem to feel very badly about this so I was put on standby when it was clear I was not leaving without seeing my doctor and within 30 minutes two other people came in and had the exact same problem as me. Didn’t know about the confirmation policy and had their appointment cancelled. This is clearly an issue and it is negligent that they are not fixing it. Thank god I stubbornly refused to leave because after a two and a half hour wait my Doctor was able to see me and it turned out I had a serious infection that I didn’t even know about that required antibiotics asap. I was almost denied critical care and my prescription medication because of this terrible policy. Please fix your auto-dialer or adjust this policy. People do not deserve to suffer because you’re too cheap to have your auto-dialer come with a voicemail.
