This was not my first treatment program so I'm speaking in comparatives. I found the groups to be supportive and people were nice and from all walks of life which was really nice. Strong AA influence and some groups are AA based (speakers/big book/steps). For mental health and medication management I did not find strong support. There was a nurse practitioner (no doctor) who was not very current in her knowledge and wasn't helpful to me. My therapist was very kind but I didn't meet with them consistently enough for any meaningful movement. I think it was the groups that carried me and the other patients in those groups that made it work short term. I experienced some gaslighting by the leadership folks at the center and feel they can be bit dishonest in their administrative practices.

It didn’t help me and I signed myself out early because they were trying to force me to go inpatient despite not having the ability to leave my home for a few months (i live alone and i need to be able to care for my cats) They said I wasn’t really trying and that I kept losing weight, but I was trying really hard to recover and I had been weighing myself, even tho i wasn’t suppose to at home, and according to my scale i was maintaining. The reason i’ll give it a 3 tho is, the staff knew that I was struggling with money because I was out of work, therefore buying food was nearly impossible, so they put together a bag of groceries for me, it was really thoughtful and caring. That was such a thoughtful way to help me and I really appreciated it. Me and my friend cooked the food and it was delicious! I really loved the program and think it could’ve helped. I talked very openly about my thoughts and feelings but it seemed I just drove them to want to send me to a higher level of care, which just isn’t possible for me. When I signed myself out they informed me that I would no longer be allowed to see my outpatient team because i refused inpatient, making it un-ethical for my outpatient eating disorder team to treat me. I was left with no one. My individual trauma focused therapist continued to see me but she had to jump through hoops for her supervisor to allow it and she has done more good in my life than anyone else. I’m actually in recovery now, working full time at a new job I love, in my career that the psychiatrist at CFD told me I couldn’t handle because I have a mental illness. Well here I am, i’m doing great, i’m awesome at my job, my relationships are stronger than ever, my mood has improved, and i’m navigating recovery with little professional support thanks to CFD, but i’m managing. I have extreme amounts of willpower, so im putting it to good use by proving everyone wrong and recovering despite the lack of support. I’ve learned recovery is possible even if it seems impossible, you just have to want it bad enough. Someone at CFD probably told me that but I had my head up my own a$$ the whole time anyway so I couldnt listen. Thanks again for the groceries, I appreciated them, I hope you guys still have my painting!
